# Source review and rules alignment

The folder contains 63 supplied source files (the generated study-kit ZIP is an output, not a source). This review inventories all of them, examines teaching coverage and test formats, and checks the official rule pages visually. It is not a claim that every historical test answer has been independently adjudicated. Scanned files were reviewed with OCR plus selected page/diagram inspection; OCR is not the authority when it conflicts with the page image.

## Which file controls the plan

The supplied **AP_RULE_2027.pdf** is the controlling two-page official Division B rule extract, printed pages B3-B4. Its extracted content matches **Anatomy Physiology 2027 Start Pack.pdf**. Both pages of AP_RULE_2027 were visually checked. The same path previously contained a 132-page teaching/sample-exam pack; the later two-page file governs this final kit. The `.log` is only a failed conversion message. The compact 2027 slides remain a 39-page teaching deck. The newly supplied YR3 teaching deck has 73 pages/slides; it does not replace the rules. The paired PPTX was inspected through slide XML text; the PDF was used for visual reading. Legacy DOC content was read through its supplied PDF counterpart, without claiming byte-for-byte equivalence.

- Team: up to two participants; approximate test time: 50 minutes.
- Permitted resources: writing utensils, two Class II calculators, and **one 8.5 x 11-inch paper sheet per team with both sides usable**. Lamination or a sheet protector is permitted. Affixed labels and multiple sheets are prohibited.
- The event may use written questions or lab-practical stations involving diagrams, models, specimens, apparatus, experiments and data interpretation.
- State & National additions in the official rules apply at **state**. Slides 13, 25 and 38 incorrectly call these national-only. The final study plan, reference and tool include them for state.

## Rule-by-rule coverage

| Official section | Coverage | Week | Reference location |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3a i-ii | Respiratory structures/functions; ventilation mechanics/measures | 1-2 | Page 1 columns 1-2 |
| 3a iii-iv | Breathing patterns and spirograms | 1-2 | Page 1 column 1 |
| 3a v-vi | Gas exchange, oxygen transport/curves, exercise/altitude | 2 | Page 1 column 2 |
| 3a vii | COPD, asthma, emphysema, pneumonia, sleep apnea, CF | 2 | Page 1 column 2 |
| 3a viii (state) | TB, edema, pleurisy, small/non-small-cell cancer, fibrosis, pneumoconiosis | 1-2 state blocks | Page 1 column 2 |
| 3a ix-x (state) | Blood chemistry/control and all respiratory treatment/prevention | 2 state block | Page 1 column 2 |
| 3b i-iv | GI anatomy, accessory organs, wall layers, regional linings | 3 | Page 1 column 3 |
| 3b v-vi | Mechanical/chemical digestion of carbohydrate, fat, protein | 3-4 | Page 2 column 1 |
| 3b vii-viii | Exercise/obesity; ulcers, digestive cancers, diarrhea, lactose intolerance, hepatitis, appendicitis | 4 | Page 1 column 3; page 2 column 1 |
| 3b ix (state) | Diverticular disease, GERD, PUD, UC, Crohn, celiac | 3-4 state blocks | Page 2 column 1 |
| 3b x-xi (state) | Liver/pancreas/Kupffer cells and all digestive treatment/prevention | 4 state block | Page 1 column 3; page 2 column 1 |
| 3c i-iv | Organs, innate (including TLRs/complement), adaptive, response and allergy | 5-6 | Page 2 columns 2-3 |
| 3c v | HIV/AIDS, CVID, SCID; MS, RA, Hashimoto, Graves; hypersensitivity I-IV and named examples | 6 | Page 2 column 3 |
| 3c vi-vii (state) | Autograft/allograft and rejection; antibody therapies and CAR-T | 6 state block | Page 2 column 3 |
| 3c viii-ix (state) | SLE, dermatomyositis, scleroderma, psoriasis/PsA; all immune treatment/prevention | 5-6 state blocks | Page 2 column 3 |

The two-page sheet summarizes each listed rule subject and disease, with three graphs and a digestive-wall schematic. It cannot reproduce every fact in all 63 sources. It is a quick reference, not a replacement for diagram practice or the detailed slides. Students should learn a structure/target, mechanism, distinguishing effect, and treatment/prevention principle for each disorder. Where a condition cannot generally be prevented, learn risk reduction or flare/complication prevention rather than inventing a cure.

## Corrections and cautions

1. **Bile:** 2027 slide 21 misleadingly includes bile in chemical bond breaking; slide 22 correctly describes physical emulsification. The kit uses the correct distinction: bile emulsifies, lipase hydrolyzes.
2. **Respiratory membrane:** the thin exchange barrier includes alveolar and capillary endothelial layers and basement membranes. It is not literally a single cell layer in total.
3. **Type II hypersensitivity:** antibodies may stimulate or block receptors, not only destroy cells. Graves and myasthenia demonstrate altered function.
4. **Antibiotics:** not all kill solely by blocking division. Different antibiotics kill or inhibit bacteria through different mechanisms; they do not treat ordinary viral infections.
5. **Antigens:** not all antigens are foreign proteins; carbohydrate epitopes and self antigens matter. ABO determinants are carbohydrate structures on surface molecules.
6. **CVID/SCID:** these are groups of immunodeficiency phenotypes, not identical to HIV. Avoid treating their cell counts and mechanisms as universally identical.
7. **Reference sheet limits:** historical test instructions vary. Follow the 2027 rules, not an old test's calculator or sheet instructions.
8. **Figures:** several supplied 2027 sample figures have structures labeled by name. Those are useful for teaching but may reveal answers during a scored labeling task. Use the tool's original unlabeled schematics or mask labels on a separate practice copy.
9. **Holdout:** UMSO is reserved for week 8, including its image sheet. Its key explicitly says Draft. Verify ambiguous answers against the slides and reputable textbooks rather than memorizing a disputed key.

## Expanded collection: corrections to teach explicitly

- **YR3 deck p.19:** most CO2 is transported as bicarbonate, not as circulating carbonic acid. The kit avoids the slide's misleading percentages.
- **YR3 deck p.21:** CO2/pH are major normal breathing regulators, but sufficiently low arterial PO2 strongly stimulates peripheral chemoreceptors. Do not learn that oxygen has no role.
- **YR3 deck p.14:** respiratory arrest means stopped breathing; it is not defined as necessarily permanent.
- **YR3 sample Station C Q16:** the maximum volume in the lungs is TLC, not VC. The question's provided choices omit the correct term; revise or omit it before scoring.
- **YR3 sample Station G Q40:** most water is absorbed in the small intestine; the colon reclaims remaining water and forms stool. Score these two functions separately.
- **YR3 sample Station H Q47:** the question asks about antibody-guided killing while its key changes the question. NK cells can mediate antibody-dependent killing; CD8 T cells recognize peptide-MHC I. Do not teach that all cytotoxic T killing needs antibodies.
- **YR3 sample Station I Q56/57:** key numbering is swapped. Match answers by wording: complement for Q56, phagocytes for Q57. Histamine is one mediator, not the only inflammatory signal.
- **Immune handout p.10:** red marrow is the primary blood-cell production tissue; yellow marrow is predominantly fatty. The p.7 diagram oversimplifies phagocytes: NK cells kill targets but do not act as ordinary phagocytes.
- **Innate recognition:** innate immunity recognizes conserved patterns through receptors such as TLRs; “nonspecific” does not mean it treats all microbes identically.
- **OSU breathing passage:** successful respiratory compensation for metabolic acidosis lowers CO2. Do not memorize the passage's claim that CO2 must rise.
- **Carolina respiratory section:** “tidal lung capacity” in the spirogram prompt should be clarified as total lung capacity. CPAP for obstructive sleep apnea chiefly helps keep the upper airway open.
- **MIT item analysis:** Q10 includes an explicit historical scoring correction (BDE, not ADE). Percent-correct values describe that tournament cohort, not the current students. The file is not a tracker.

### Using the additional tests without increasing workload

Use YR3 Stations A-B in week 1, C in week 2, D in week 3, F-G in week 4, H-I in week 5, and J as an optional week-6 antibody/cell-response check. Give only question pages; even pages reveal answers. In week 7, a coach can arrange three 4-minute stations (lung graph, gut diagram, immune mechanism) plus 8 minutes of discussion inside the existing 30-minute state session. A station must ask for both a name and a function or inference.

Northmont matching, OSU diagrams, CUSO mixed questions, and the earlier BullSO/UT Austin/Highlander/SVSO/Rickards sets are substitutions for scheduled practice, not extra assignments. Select questions that match AP_RULE_2027 and keep the corresponding key/figure pages together. Exclude ambiguous items from mastery percentages until corrected.

MIT is an optional reasoning challenge, not a full required eighth-grade exam. Its authors describe content well beyond routine competition preparation. Skip specialist radiology, gene-marker trivia and combinatorial receptor questions unless a core skill is already secure. Keep UMSO fully unseen until the final week.

## Practice tool coverage and limits

156 original questions: 52 per system, including 48 written rubric items. The 36 additions emphasize the new station/data tasks, anatomy details and source corrections; original 120 question IDs are retained so saved progress remains attached to the same questions. The tool does not reproduce or exhaust every supplied test. It covers regional mechanisms and a state-added disease/treatment track. Some advanced reasoning questions remain in Core because the subject is regional under the rules. The bank mixes difficulty within each track; the track is not a difficulty score.

Modes: immediate-feedback study, delayed-feedback quiz, timed team mock, and due/missed review. Multiple-choice scoring is automatic; written answers need student/partner rubric scores. Diagrams and illustrative data are original classroom simplifications. No AI grading or network connection is required. Historical full paper tests and real model/specimen practice remain essential complements.

Functional verification used a temporary headless Edge profile: automatic scoring, written rubrics, profile isolation, refresh persistence, timer expiry, backup import/export and mobile overflow checks passed with no JavaScript errors. Test records were not written into the students' normal browser profile.
